Guitar and Ukulele Lessons
With few exceptions, I have found being able to play the guitar has brought more joy to my life than almost anything. Being able to sit and play guitar with a group of friends around a campfire or in a song circle is one of the most rewarding things I do. Starting when I was young, I laid the foundation for years of joy. I am so grateful to my parents for getting me that Sears guitar when I was in the 7th grade! Do you have a child or grandchild who is ready to start on that adventure? Learn to play the guitar or ukulele. Now is a great time to build the foundations for a lifetime of enjoyment.
If you are grown, it's not too late to start! Pull that guitar or ukulele out of the closet or go purchase one at your local music store and start something you will never regret. Your friends will enjoy your playing and thank you for bringing them together in song.
I would love to help get you to a place where you feel comfortable playing the songs of your choice. You may start just playing for yourself. But eventually, you will gain the confidence to play with others and perhaps even lead a group of friends in song. It will be the best thing you have ever done!
I have been playing guitar for more than 40 years! I started when I was in 7th grade. I can teach basic guitar chords if you are interested in strumming along for a group or if you want to accompany yourself as a singer. I can also teach note reading if that is what you would like to learn. I have taught both individual and group lessons. I include basic theory as part of the lesson (melody, rhythm, harmony, form). Students pick the songs they want to learn as part of the lessons.
I began teaching ukulele lessons 10 years ago for after-school programs. I needed a smaller instrument to accompany my work with babies as part of my work with Baby Arts Play. I teach basic chords, fingerpicking patterns, strum patterns, and simple melody playing during the lessons. Students get to pick which songs they want to learn as part of the lessons.
In person or Online platform
I am currently teaching both in-person as well as online lessons. In-person lessons are at my studio in Wichita and online lessons are taught via the Zoom Platform. Students are given a personal zoom link for the lessons that they enter when it is time for their lesson.
Lessons are weekly and last 30 minutes. If you would like a longer lesson that can be arranged. Students are asked to pay for lessons at the beginning of the month via PayPal or cash app. If lessons need to be canceled a 24-hour notice is required for a credit towards the next month's lessons. The cost per lesson is $25.
If you give a referral for a new student, you will receive an ongoing 15% discount as long as the new student continues.
I look forward to hearing about your musical goals and setting up your lessons.
